The inspiration for this story was a couple different things. One: We had a general manager that we worked with who would actually sleep on the office floor on top of pizza bag when he had to close the store and open it the next day. Two: I, Ryan had recently been locked out of work waiting for the manager to get there. They were running late. Three: We also had a manager who make pizzas and walk away and forget about them. They would always end up on the floor or in the trash can and we would have to remake them.
Difficulties
This was the very first 8 bit pixel web comic that we have ever made, like ever. Which presented it’s own difficulties. For example, how do I translate people and realistic art into pixel art? How do you draw something as detailed and complicated as a restaurant? So we just decided to boil everything down into its simplest form. For this episode of Pizza Bros, we actually ended up drawing almost all of the backgrounds, the main characters, and a lot of the different poses that they were going to end up doing.
Comedy Writing and Pixel Art Coming Together
Dennis pointing and saying “By the way, is that how you actually open a can?” actually happened… to both of us. We had a real person that we worked with that boldly proclaimed this question to every new employee that he work with. We found this so funny that anyone could possibly open a can wrong that we had to write it into Pizza Bros, which is why Dennis is pointing in an aggressive manner. This is what the person did in real life. Soooooo funny!
Most Fun to Create
Ed sleeping on the floor in the beginning of the episode was the most fun to draw in pixel art. Seeing this happen in real life and then recreating it in a funny 8 bit art style had us laughing for days.
